This celebrity doll repaint was inspired by British actress Keira Knightley and is the final piece in my series of Elizabeth Swann repaints.

I used a 16-inch Elizabeth Swann doll here produced by Robert Tonner Doll company.

So, the first order of business was to completely remove factory facial painting. I then hand painted it to bring the likeness of Ms. Knightley to life particularly as she appeared in her portrayal from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Black Pearl.

Next was I transformed her hair style by giving her a heat perm. I then carefully styled the hair to replicate Keira's in the very romantic 1700s upswept hair style from the Curse of the Black Pearl, with delicate tiny ringlets framing her face, which were individually rooted in.

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area and an even greater challenge of recreating a real person's likeness. Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.
