I wasn't planning on doing another Angelina Jolie-inspired repaint, but when I saw Tonner Doll Company's new Lara Croft doll, I could not resist the urge. Lara Croft is one of my favorite action heroes, and I particularly enjoyed Jolie's Tomb Raider movies.
I started by popping the head off of Tonner's Lara Croft doll and replaced it with the head from Tonner's fashion doll named Angelina (quite a coincidence). I used the Angelina head because I felt that the head mold bears striking similarities to Jolie's features.
Then I removed the doll's factory facial paint and completely repainted it to match Jolie's features as close as possible.
Next. I transformed her hair style to replicate Jolie's hair style as Lara Croft, with partial braids in a tightly pulled back style, and with a couple of pieces of hair hanging dwon the front of her face. The inset photo on the upper left hand corner shows the doll's original factory facial paint.
Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area and an even greater challenge of recreating a real person's likeness. Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.
