Michael Jackson's brilliant artistry has inspired me growing up and many of his songs elicit fond and sometime not-so-fond memories of my childhood and growing up years. This particular repaint continues to pay tribute to the man who, although often misunderstood, has left us all a priceless legacy.

I really love the details on this latest Michael Jackson figure produced by Hot Toys, and just had to seize the opportunity to create another custom repaint.

This deviation depicts Michael Jackson as himself as he looked in the "Bad" music video. Full facial repaint to bring out the true essence of MJ. special attention was given to the nose by giving it a more "pinched" look as the original failed to capture that. Nuances in facial coloring were also replicated to depict Michael's uneven skin coloring. Doing this also enhanced the facial texture of the sculpt. Lastly, I softened the hairline further to soften it.

I wish to point out that this particular figure features parallel eyeball rolling system (PERS), which allows the glass eyeballs to move and the figure look in virtually all directions. Another wonderful feature of this Hot Toys figure is its translucent iris giving the eyes more depth and realism.

The inset photo on the bottom middle shows the mass produced version of the Hot Toys MJ head as it was originally released.

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area and an even greater challenge of recreating a real person's likeness. Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.

-- acrylic paint and ultra fine brushes

Do you know what color acrylic paint the original skin tone is? I have this doll and recently I found a small chipped paint spot on the tip of his nose.
