I just wanted to share this deviation which was a commissioned project from a huge Michael Jackson fan.
The figure used was the Billie Jean Michael Jackson produced by Hot Toys. This version is the first ever MJ figure Hot Toys produced.
This deviation depicts Michael Jackson as he performed Billie Jean during his History Tour.
I wanted the size of the nose to be in more accurate proportion to all the other facial features. I thought this was a very important part of the make over. Also, I tried to make the facial expression more accurate by way of reshaping the eyes and mouth through repaint. Lastly, I added little details here and there in the facial shading as well as softening the hairline
The inset photo on the bottom middle shows the mass produced version of the Hot Toys MJ head as it was originally released.
Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area and an even greater challenge of recreating a real person's likeness. Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.
-- acrylic paint and ultra fine brushes
(Note: I am not in any way affiliated with the Hot Toys or any other company)
I'm going to be flat-out honest here....so far, Michael Jackson is the ONLY one who doesn't quite look exact in your gallery. I don't know, I really was hoping you'd be the only one who got him right but hey, you're the closest so far. I think it's not you though but the ones who have modeled his face. It's just not MJ as we see him on screen.
Ughh, you are a genius at your craft mark my words. Everyone else I have viewed is 100% flawless. It seems for some reason people have a hard time with MJ. I've been looking EVERYWHERE to buy a perfect MJ figurine but they just don't exist.
I would like to know more about your commissions.
