My most recent 11 1/2 inch Cher doll repaint. The base doll used was a version produced by Mattel.
Complete removal of original paint then given a full facial repaint as well as a rework of the hair to replicate a live version of Cher's "If I Could Turn Back Time". Note that hairline was also handpainted to add a more realistic appearance.
The inset photo on the bottom right shows the doll as it looked originally before repainting.
Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.
-- acrylic paint and ultra fine brushes
(Note: I am not in any way affiliated with the Mattel.)
I love looking through this gallery...it's amazing to see how you can capture the person's features on their mass-produced doll counterparts so well. Thoroughly impressed with every one.
I absolutely love how you add the hairlines to your dolls. It's a small detail in the scheme of things, but it's so profound in completing the likenesses and realism, so many times.
