This doll, at 22-inches, is much larger than dolls I usually work with, so it's a bit of a challenge to tackle a different scale, not only painting-wise but the logistics of it. Anyhow, the sculpt is really quite beautiful but needed the proper paint treatment to bring Monroe to life.
Full facial repaint as reworking of hair and hair line were all essential to this transformation.
Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.
