This celebrity doll repaint was inspired by the delicately classic beauty of Hollywood star Vivien Leigh - this time not as she portrayed Scarlett O'Hara, but simply just as herself. I felt that creating a Vivien Leigh doll would be a fresh and exciting change as there is already a plethora of Scarlett O'Hara dolls in the market, but never one of just Vivien Leigh as herself.
I used a 16-inch Scarlett O'hara doll here produced by Robert Tonner Doll company. I completely removed factory facial painting and hand painted it create an exacting replica of Ms. Leigh's alluring features.
The doll's hair has been completely and elaborately restyled to look like one of Ms. Leigh's own hair styes from during the height of her career around late 1930s to early 1940s.
The inset photo on the bottom middle shows the doll as it looked originally before repainting.
Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area . Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.
-- acrylic paint and ultra fine brushes
