This celebrity doll repaint is inspired by Cam Gigandet's character, James, the tracker vampire in the nomadic trio of vampires from the movie Twilight.

I used a mass produced 17-inch James doll by Robert Tonner Doll company. Again, typical of mass manufactured dolls, this one needed to be precision repainted to bring out the essence of not only the movie character but the actory portraying the role.

Factory paint completely removed and fully repainted with utmost accuracy and attention to subtle details. His tattoo is also handpainted in addition to careful shading of his torso and chest to produce a more masculine and rugged look. Hands and feet were hand painted toi cereate the illusion of grime and dirt.

The hair underwent meticulous and careful reworking restyling to replicate James' hair style. Last, I hand painted delicate lines of hair along the hairline and more authentically hand painted sideburns to soften the overall look.

The inset photo in the bottom middle shows the mass produced version of the James doll as it was originally factory painted.

Repaint is a new form of pop art, wherein the doll's face is treated like a three dimensional canvas, with the added challenge of painting within a very small area and an even greater challenge of recreating a real person's likeness. Since dolls are basically miniature pieces, brush strokes and shading have to be very controlled and precise.
